Lagos Chief Imam Canvasses Muslim Unity Ahead of Future Elections

The Chief Imam of the Lagos State Central Mosque has called on Muslims across Nigeria to embrace unity, coordination and commitment as the foundation for advancing the interests of the Muslim community, stressing the need for a common agenda ahead of future elections.

The Chief Imam made the call on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Lagos, Directorate of Muslim Affairs, led by its Director of Muslim Affairs, Alhaji Waheed Tella. The statement on the meeting was made available to journalists on Friday.

The delegation, which included Hajia Idayat Aloba (Esq.), Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot, Dr. Mustapha Bello and Imam Abdulwasi, visited the Islamic leader to seek his blessings and fatherly counsel as they continued their activities under the Renewed Hope initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Tella thanked the Chief Imam for receiving them and prayed for Allah to grant him good health, long life and wisdom in the service of Islam.

According to him, the visit was aimed at seeking guidance and prayers as members of the directorate discharge their responsibilities.

> “Our purpose here is to seek your blessings and fatherly advice as we continue our responsibilities under the Renewed Hope initiative. We remain committed to serving the Muslim community with sincerity and dedication,” Tella said.

Responding, the Chief Imam commended the delegation for its commitment to the growth of Islam, noting that Muslims still have enormous responsibilities at both the state and federal levels.

He urged Muslims to remain united and coordinated in pursuing their collective aspirations, saying disunity would only weaken the community’s ability to achieve meaningful progress.

“Muslims should have a single agenda and remain coordinated at both the federal and state levels. There is a need to harmonise our objectives and goals if we are to achieve the results we desire. We must reject segregation and work together as one united body,” he said.

The Chief Imam also charged members of the delegation to sustain regular consultations with relevant stakeholders, describing consultation, coordination and commitment as indispensable to the success of their mission.

“Never stop consulting. Our success depends on consultation, coordination and commitment,” he added.

He further prayed for peace, stability and divine guidance for Nigeria, particularly as the country prepares for future electoral activities.

Also speaking, Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot said members of the committee accepted the assignment during the last general election out of commitment to Islam rather than personal interest.

“We accepted this responsibility because of our love for Islam. Money was never the motivation. Our desire has always been to serve the Muslim community faithfully,” Uzamot said.

In his closing remarks, the Chief Imam encouraged the delegation to remain steadfast in carrying out its responsibilities with sincerity and confidence.

“Continue your work with sincerity and confidence. Do not be discouraged. Carry out your responsibilities diligently, and whenever you require support or guidance, do not hesitate to return. We will always stand with you,” he said.

The meeting ended with prayers for the continued growth of Islam, unity among Muslims and divine guidance for the nation’s leaders, while participants reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively for the advancement of Islamic affairs in Lagos State and across Nigeria.
