LASEPA seals 12 Lagos firms, hotels over environmental breaches

By Adebola Isimijola, Lagos

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed 12 establishments in the Ijora Causeway and Apapa areas of Lagos for persistent violations of environmental regulations despite repeated warnings, abatement notices and opportunities granted to them to comply with the agency’s directives.

The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, 2026, saying the enforcement operation was carried out on Wednesday, August 5, after the affected facilities failed to comply with corrective measures issued by the agency.

According to LASEPA, the affected establishments include Helmar Building Materials, Laprivad Nigeria Ltd, Innocast Nigeria Ltd, Body Language Shipping & Cargo, Laodo Control Jetty, Adaps Nigeria Ltd, Kehdi Equipments Ltd, Bulus Hotel, Park Inn Hotel, Mandarin Supermarket, Hamada Enterprises and Infinity Pirelli Tyres.

Speaking on the enforcement exercise, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, said the action underscored the agency’s resolve to protect public health and preserve the environment through sustained monitoring, strict compliance enforcement and effective implementation of environmental regulations across the state.

“Environmental compliance remains a collective responsibility. The agency will continue to intensify enforcement actions against individuals, businesses and corporate organisations whose activities pose risks to the environment and public wellbeing,” Ajayi said.

He urged business owners, facility operators and residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices by obtaining the necessary approvals, complying with environmental regulations and cooperating with the agency in its efforts to build a cleaner, healthier and pollution-free Lagos.

Ajayi reiterated that LASEPA would sustain its enforcement drive against environmental offenders to ensure strict compliance with the state’s environmental laws and guarantee a safe and sustainable environment for all residents.
