Ogun Police kill two suspected kidnappers, recover AK-47 after rescue of Okun Owa Prince

The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two mobile phones and other incriminating exhibits during a follow-up operation after the successful rescue of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.

The operation, carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams, followed sustained intelligence-led efforts to dismantle the kidnapping gang responsible for the monarch’s abduction.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was kidnapped at about 7:30 p.m. on June 30, 2026, when armed men invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, immediately directed the activation of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and arrest of the perpetrators.

It added that sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical pressure forced the kidnappers to release the prince unharmed on July 3, 2026.

Babaseyi explained that after securing the victim’s freedom, police operatives intensified efforts to track down the suspects, acting on credible intelligence that led them to the Agoro/Imodi axis.

He said the suspects opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them, prompting a gun battle during which two of the kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.

According to him, “A search conducted on the neutralised kidnappers led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.”

The police spokesman disclosed that the bodies of the deceased suspects had been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover additional exhibits.

Commending the operatives for their bravery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the courage, professionalism and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s determination to identify, track and dismantle criminal networks operating across Ogun State.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that the Command would continue intelligence-led policing and robust tactical operations to safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
