Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspected cultist, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the state.
The Command said the suspect was apprehended after police officers intercepted a motorcycle conveying three passengers and discovered the firearm in his possession during a search.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
The statement added that Adigun also disclosed that he and other members of the cult group, who are currently at large, were on a mission to attack some individuals before they were intercepted by the police.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal group and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing and proactive operations.
Fatai urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information that would assist the police in preventing crime and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
