The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area of the state had been released.
The Command, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the report as misleading and entirely unsubstantiated.
According to the statement, there had been no such development as of the time of filing the report, urging members of the public to disregard the viral messages.
“The claim is false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated. As of the time of this release, there has been no such development,” the statement read.
The Police Command reassured residents and families of the victims that coordinated rescue operations were still ongoing, adding that security operatives were deploying all available resources to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
It added that efforts were also being intensified to apprehend and prosecute those behind the abduction.
While appreciating public concern over the incident, the Command cautioned against the spread of false information and unverified reports capable of causing panic and undermining ongoing security operations.
The police further urged residents to rely solely on information released through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring the safe return of the victims and will continue to provide timely and accurate updates as developments unfold,” the statement added.
