The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a truck hijacking operation in Ijebu Imushin area of Ogun State, recovering the stolen vehicle and a wooden-fabricated rifle allegedly used by the suspects.

The command said the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday after a truck driver conveying motor spare parts was attacked by suspected hoodlums at Oke-Ado area in Ijebu North Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects forcefully dispossessed the driver of the DAF truck before fleeing with it.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives, in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene, forcing the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure,” the statement said.

According to the police, the prompt intervention prevented the loss of property and frustrated the criminal operation.

The driver was said to have sustained minor injury to his right ankle during the incident and was immediately given first aid treatment.

The statement added that a search conducted on the recovered truck led to the discovery of “a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape” allegedly used by the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

Police said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
