The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two security guards over the alleged murder of a traveller, identified simply as Promise, in Ibafo area of the state.

The suspects, Isikilu Dauda, 55, and Rasaki Abbas, were apprehended by detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters following a tip-off from a concerned resident.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 10 2026, at about 7:00 a.m., when the police were alerted and promptly mobilised to the scene.

The victim was found in critical condition and rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor.

Police said the victim, before his death, alleged that he was attacked and macheted by security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night.

Preliminary investigation revealed a trail of blood linking the scene to one of the suspects, leading to his arrest, while further efforts resulted in the apprehension of the second suspect.

The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other accomplices who fled the scene.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for autopsy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident and assured that all those involved would be brought to justice.

He warned against unlawful violence and reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial acts, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed these in a statement on Monday in Abeokuta.

The development underscores ongoing efforts by the police to curb violent crimes in Ogun communities, as authorities intensify the search for fleeing suspects.
