The Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court has granted bail to three suspects standing trial over the alleged obstruction and assault of police officers performing their lawful duties in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The suspects, Alaba Mulika, 51; Alawode Iyanu, 21; and Temitope Saliu, 29, were granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each.

The court also ordered that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment and proof of ownership of houses within the court’s jurisdiction, subject to verification by the court registrar.

The case was adjourned until October 12, 2026, for further proceedings.

The suspects were arraigned following an investigation ordered by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, into an incident involving the alleged obstruction and assault of police officers in Ago-Iwoye.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred on September 29, when a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye.

Babaseyi said that while the vehicle was being conveyed to the police station, a Toyota Highlander, with registration number JJJ 215 JV, allegedly blocked its movement at Abobi Street.

He said a physical confrontation subsequently occurred, during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted.

The PPRO added that video recordings of the incident, which later circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed by detectives during the investigation.

He said the suspects were facing five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault on police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Following the investigation, the police arrested the three suspects and charged them before the court.

The suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
