Segun Abraham: ‘God Has Given Me Bigger Assignment Than Political Office’

Former Ondo APC governorship aspirant says he now lives abroad

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Dr. Segun Abraham, has said he is currently living abroad and focusing on what he described as a divine assignment bigger than any political office.

Abraham disclosed this while responding to questions about his current whereabouts and political activities.

“I live abroad more than Nigeria,” he said, adding: “God has given big assignment. Bigger than any political office and the job is beyond Nigerian border and beyond this generation.”

The statement comes amid questions about Abraham’s current political activities following his unsuccessful attempts to secure the APC governorship ticket in Ondo State.

Abraham was a major contender for the party’s governorship ticket in 2016, when he lost the primary election to the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Akeredolu polled 669 votes against Abraham’s 635 votes, winning by a margin of 34 votes.

Abraham, who was widely associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political camp at the time, contested the APC governorship ticket again in 2020.

He remained involved in the political activities surrounding Tinubu’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2023 general elections, after which Tinubu emerged President.

However, Abraham was not among those appointed into the Federal Executive Council when the President constituted his cabinet.

Another prominent politician from Abraham’s federal constituency, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, popularly known as BTO, was appointed Minister of Interior after securing re-election to the House of Representatives for the Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency.

Tunji-Ojo subsequently resigned his legislative seat to take up the ministerial appointment, leading to a by-election in the constituency, which was won by APC candidate Ife Ehindero in February 2024.

Abraham’s latest comments have now offered an insight into his present focus, although he did not state whether he has withdrawn permanently from partisan politics.

He also did not disclose the nature of the assignment he referred to, saying only that it was bigger than political office and extended beyond Nigeria’s borders and the present generation. ::
