MC Oluomo, others mourn as Baba Alado dies at 83

The death of prominent Mushin community leader and socialite, Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, has sparked tributes from political associates, transport stakeholders and residents of the Lagos community.

Faronbi, who was 83, reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, with his family subsequently announcing his death. He was later buried according to Islamic rites.

His death came about two years after he publicly debunked a widely circulated rumour that he had died.

In April 2024, Faronbi had appeared in a video circulated online, speaking in Yoruba and insisting that he was alive and in good health. He also urged those spreading the rumour to stop, saying he had never wished anyone dead or deliberately harmed another person’s life.

The 2024 report, published by Mushines on April 18, noted that the false death report was not the first involving Faronbi and that an earlier rumour had generated tension in Mushin and other parts of Lagos.

However, about two years after dismissing the death rumour, Faronbi has now died at the age of 83.

Until his death, he was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin. He also held the titles of Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom and Babaloja of Aswani International Market.

Faronbi was a prominent figure in Lagos grassroots affairs and was associated with the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW. He was also involved in business, real estate and community activities.

Reacting to his death, NURTW National President, Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, mourned the deceased and described him as a man whose contributions and relationships would be remembered.

MC Oluomo said Baba Alado’s presence within the transport and community space would not be forgotten, while extending his condolences to the deceased’s family and associates.

Among those reported to have attended his funeral were Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe, and Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Oluseyi Jakande.

Faronbi was also known within Lagos’ social circles and maintained relationships with several prominent Fuji musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Saheed Osupa and Alabi Pasuma.

His death marks the end of the life of a prominent figure whose influence cut across Mushin’s traditional, transport, business and social circles.
