A 43-year-old man, Edebiri Temitope, has been arrested in connection with the death of his 38-year-old neighbour, Mike Oje, who was reportedly beaten after hugging and playing with his neighbour’s three-year-old daughter in Mowe, Ogun State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this to journalists on Friday.
According to Babaseyi, Temitope, who was earlier reported to be at large, was arrested in connection with Oje’s death and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Oje, a university graduate, was allegedly attacked by the child’s father, who reportedly became angry over what he described as the deceased’s “rough play” with his daughter.
The father was said to have picked up a bamboo stick and repeatedly struck Oje until he collapsed and died.
The incident reportedly occurred in Mowe, where Oje and the suspect lived as neighbours.
Oje, 38, was a graduate of Guidance and Counselling.
The suspect was earlier reported to have gone into hiding with his family following the incident before his arrest.
The police identified him as Edebiri Temitope, “M”, aged 43.
Babaseyi said the suspect’s transfer to the State CID was to enable further investigation into the circumstances surrounding Oje’s death and the alleged assault.
