The Lagos State Police Command has identified the police inspector seen in a viral video making inappropriate remarks while travelling in a public transport vehicle and commenced disciplinary action against him.
The officer was identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, following the circulation of the video on social media.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday , saying the disciplinary process was being handled in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command said the remarks attributed to the inspector in the viral video were made in his personal capacity and did not represent its position, views or official disposition of the Nigeria Police Force.
It said the action was in keeping with the Command’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the conduct of its personnel.
The development comes amid renewed public scrutiny of police conduct following the circulation of videos on social media showing alleged unprofessional behaviour by some officers. The Police authorities have, in previous cases, responded by identifying officers and initiating disciplinary processes.
Reacting to the latest incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated that police personnel must maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
Fatai said wearing the police uniform carried a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force.
He added that the Command would not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Police Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the institution.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
