Police seal suspected fake wine factory in Badagry, arrest 48-year-old

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and sealed a suspected illegal factory allegedly used for the production and packaging of adulterated alcoholic drinks in Badagry, arresting a 48-year-old man in connection with the operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 24, 2026, saying the operation followed credible information received from members of the public.

Adebisi identified the suspect as Anaebo Emeka Hilary, 48, who was arrested at the suspected factory in Yafin, Badagry, where police operatives allegedly found materials and products linked to the production of alcoholic drinks.

According to the command, the items recovered from the premises included suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, assorted wine labels and various utensils believed to have been used for production and packaging.

The factory was subsequently sealed by the police, while the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.

The recovered items have also been moved to the police station as detectives continue efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected operation.

The development comes days after the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, announced the arrest of two women over alleged production of fake fruit juice at an illegal facility in Badagry.

The NSCDC had said its operatives, after five days of surveillance, raided the facility and recovered cartons of suspected fake fruit juice, machinery, chemicals, drums, a gas cylinder and a truck.

The latest police operation, however, is a separate incident, and the command has not indicated any connection between the two cases.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their vigilance and prompt response to the information that led to the discovery.

Fatai said the command would continue to rely on intelligence-led operations to tackle criminal activities across Lagos State.

He also urged members of the public to provide the police with timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and investigating criminal activities.

The command said investigation into the suspected factory and the recovered items was ongoing.
