The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigation into the deaths of a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) evangelist, Evangelist Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike Odukoya, following a reported domestic incident in the Akinode/Ibogun area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, involving Odukoya, said to be the Shepherd-in-Charge of CCC Dews of Heaven Parish (Iri Orun), and his wife.

According to preliminary accounts from community sources, the couple allegedly had a domestic altercation which reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Mrs. Odukoya was said to have sustained a serious head injury during the incident and subsequently became unresponsive.

Her son reportedly raised an alarm, attracting neighbours, members of the Community Development Association (CDA) and other residents to the scene.

She was subsequently found unresponsive and was later reported dead.

Evangelist Odukoya was reportedly said to have left the residence following the incident.

However, at about 6:00 a.m. the same day, residents reportedly received information that the body of a man had been found around Iyana Coker, in the Ifo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

CDA representatives who reportedly visited the scene were said to have identified the deceased as Evangelist Odukoya.

Confirming police involvement in the matter, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the Command was investigating the case to ascertain the facts.

In a message dated September 2, 2026, Opeyemi said, “The command is very much aware of this case and currently investigating diligently to ascertain the facts of this case. We’ll be briefing the public about every developments.” (sìc)

The police confirmation comes amid various accounts circulating within the community concerning the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The cause and circumstances of the two deaths have not been officially established, while allegations surrounding the reported domestic altercation and the evangelist’s death along the expressway remain subject to police investigation.

Mrs. Odukoya was reportedly buried at the family residence later that afternoon, while arrangements were said to be ongoing concerning the remains of her husband.

The deaths have reportedly thrown the couple’s family, church congregation and members of the surrounding community into mourning.

The Ogun State Police Command said it would brief the public on developments as the investigation progresses.
