The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected telecommunication vandals and recovered a truckload of suspected stolen iron rods in the Ibeju-Lekki axis of the state.
The suspects were allegedly caught stealing iron poles meant for the construction of telecommunication masts and were arrested while conveying the materials in a truck.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebesi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, adding that the arrests formed part of the Command’s intensified efforts to curb the vandalism and theft of critical infrastructure across the state.

The suspects were identified as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20.
According to Adebesi, the suspects are currently in police custody, while the case is being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.
She said discreet investigation was ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and unravel the full extent of the alleged criminal activities.
The Command also commended the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army for its cooperation and synergy, which it said contributed significantly to the successful operation and arrest of the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and bringing perpetrators of vandalism to justice.
Fatai urged residents to promptly provide credible information about suspicious activities in their communities, stressing the importance of public cooperation in preventing attacks on critical infrastructure.
