Police arrest four suspected robbers, cultists in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly linked to recent killings, armed robbery and cult-related activities in the Ajah axis of the state.

The suspects were arrested during sustained follow-up operations in connection with a robbery case, while three locally made pistols, one live ammunition, two battle axes and a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine were recovered from them.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebesi, said the suspects were identified as Kareem Abiodun, 26; Tansiru Emmanuel, 29; Lateef Usman, 28; and Alashe Azeez, 32.

According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were linked to recent robbery activities around Ajah, Sangotedo and Ibeju-Lekki.

The police further said the suspects had made confessional statements regarding their alleged involvement in armed robbery, murder and cultism.

The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang and recover additional exhibits.

The Command said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their diligence and sustained follow-up efforts.

Fatai charged the operatives to sustain the momentum and intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the gang.

He warned cultists, armed robbers and other violent criminals that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to track them down and bring them to justice.

The Command also urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines for prompt police response.
