Police arrest suspected robber with human hand, guns in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber allegedly found in possession of a suspected human hand, two locally made pistols and other suspected stolen items during a stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, was apprehended after operatives intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus conveying six occupants, the Command said on Friday.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal and five ATM cards from the suspect.

Adebisi said the suspect confessed during interrogation to recently robbing three persons of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.

She added that efforts were ongoing to identify and contact the victims for the return of their recovered property.

The police spokesperson said investigators were also working to establish the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, the circumstances surrounding its possession and its intended use.

“Further efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend other criminal associates connected with the suspect. The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, assured residents of the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and enhance public safety.
