First Bank MD receives envelope containing live bullets, Police launch investigation

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation after the Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria, Mr. Oluwasegun Alebiosu, reportedly received an envelope containing two live bullets at his Lagos residence.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed the incident during a press briefing on Tuesday, saying the suspicious package was delivered by a dispatch rider and received by security personnel attached to Alebiosu’s residence.

According to the police commissioner, the envelope was specifically addressed to the First Bank chief executive and marked “confidential” before it was handed over to him.

Sources said Alebiosu discovered two live bullets concealed inside the envelope upon opening it. No letter, note or message accompanied the package, and there was no immediate indication of the sender’s identity or motive.

CP Fatai said detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) had commenced investigations into the incident to unravel those behind the delivery and determine the circumstances surrounding it.

“The package was delivered through a dispatch rider and contained live ammunition addressed to the recipient. Investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the act,” he said.

The police commissioner noted that no suspect had been identified or arrested in connection with the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The development has raised concerns within financial and security circles, given Alebiosu’s position as the head of one of the country’s leading financial institutions.

Police authorities have reportedly strengthened security around the First Bank Managing Director while efforts continue to trace the source of the parcel and bring those responsible to justice.

The command assured the public that it would leave no stone unturned in its investigation and urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist law enforcement agencies.
