Ogun CP Charges UNILAG Students to Shun Cultism, Social Vices

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has charged students of the University of Lagos to remain focused on their academic pursuits and avoid social vices capable of destroying their future.

Ojajuni gave the charge while receiving a delegation from the Department of Geosciences, University of Lagos, during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The delegation, made up of lecturers and students of Geology and Geophysics, was led by Akinmosin Adewale as part of a geological fieldwork excursion within Ogun State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the visit was aimed at promoting academic engagement and strengthening collaboration between the police and academic institutions on youth development and public safety awareness.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Adewale commended the police commissioner for sustaining internal security efforts and enhancing community policing initiatives across the state.

He also appreciated the Command for the warm reception accorded to the delegation, noting that exposing students to security institutions helps in building civic responsibility among young scholars.

Addressing the students, CP Ojajuni urged them to remain disciplined, focused and future-oriented.

“Education remains a critical pathway to personal success and national development,” the police commissioner was quoted as saying.

He further warned the students against involvement in cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and other criminal activities.

The CP stressed that “discipline, integrity and hard work remain the foundation of lasting success.”

The statement added that members of the Command’s management team also engaged the students in an interactive session.

Among those present were the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Ibrahim Abdul; Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Gbenga Adeoye; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration, Akinmoladun Olu Moore.

They encouraged the students to uphold lawful conduct, patriotism and responsible citizenship, while also urging them to become ambassadors of peace and partners in community safety within their academic environment.

The engagement, according to the statement, gave the students valuable insight into police operations and reinforced the need for collaboration between security agencies and educational institutions in fostering a safer society.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Adeniyi Oluwatobi expressed appreciation to the police commissioner and the management team for what he described as a warm reception and impactful mentorship session.
